After a long year (for us, but even more so for Isaac) of battling recurring ear infections, Isaac will be having ear tube surgery on Monday morning (May 3rd). We are at peace that this is what needs to happen at this point as none of the many alternative remedies have worked for him and he continues to struggle with fluid (primarily) in his right ear. Hopefully this will do the trick. Just another "like father, like son" example - Joel having tubes in at 18 months of age.
At Isaac's pre-op physical this past week they sent in a "Child Life Specialist" to prepare me and Isaac emotionally for the procedure. She let Isaac play with the "mask" and got him comfortable with it so that it wouldn't be scary and/or "new" the day of the procedure. After he watched me put it to my mouth and take a couple of deep breaths, he picked up what he was supposed to do in no time and put it to his own mouth and mimicked what I had done. I'm hoping to go back with Isaac and stay with him until he falls asleep - they say it's up to the surgeon, and since we know the surgeon from our church, we're hopeful that he'll allow it. We've been reading "going to the hospital" books the past couple of days and will continue doing so throughout the weekend prior to Isaac's surgery on Monday. His favorite so far - "Clifford Goes to the Hospital."
The hospital requested we be there by 6:15 a.m. Monday morning, with the procedure scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Please keep him, the Doctor, and us in your prayers on Monday morning. We'll keep you posted.
